An update…
Today marks exactly 6 months since I had the health scare of my life. On this date the 19th day of Feb 2025, I went to the emergency room cause I thought I had bad indigestion. I thought I’d have a strong burp and would solve the problem. I was sorely mistaken. After test were ran and they were about to let me go. Sidenote: So thankful for the black nurse who said your levels are off and something doesn’t feel right and we gone run one more test. Then she put me thru that MRI machine. If not for her things could’ve been real different.
For those who’ve never been thru an mri, Once inside you can’t move, but you can hear everything as they are talking to you. suddenly I heard voices from the heavens as all hell begin to break loose, but it was actually the nurses over the intercom. As I lay in the machine all I heard was a chorus of “oh no’s & that’s not good.” The the nurse calmly slid out the machine and proceeded to tell me, that I have a major blockage in my artery and showed me such blockage and they. Need to send me straight to surgery. I had an hour before the surgery happened. So I gave my keys to Melissa & called my mama and that’s the last thing I remember; until I woke up around March 5th or 6th. This were the story gets hazy, I remember seeing certain people but don’t know who really visited. If you did visit thank you. Please forgive if I don’t remember and let me know you stopped by!
All I remember is waking up and the tube in my mouth was getting on my last good nerve. All I knew was had open heart surgery and from what Ive been told, I had two strokes during/after the surgery. It was real touch and go. While ya was freaking out, I was having the best sleep of my life lol. I’m still piecing everything together but I know one thing and this I know for sure, without my community’s outpouring of love, support and prayers, I would not be here. Much love to everyone that has sent monies, Gifts, called & text and keeping me lifted during this time. And special s/o to my family for holding it down, especially my Mama & my sister for helping me recover and get back on track. I feel about 90 percent back to myself. And slowly but surely creeping more and more outside
Again Thanks to those who have donated thus far to the medical fund (cause I had insurance but we in America with dumbass Donnie at the helm but I digress. Le sigh)
– All that said I’m a proud of my progress & I’ve come a long way. My only major problems have been my scar itches and I get tongue tied super easy. Other than that I don’t feel like a heart attack or stroke survivor but here I Am!. God is amazing cause they were scared I was going to be permanently damaged from the stroke. But Im still here with most of my facilities in tact!! My docs have been happy thus far and my check ups have been going great as well. im truly as starting over from scratch. I’m still at home in SC for the time being. But travel and getting back outside. There have been changes all around. I No longer have a job at the Hayti in Durham but it was fun while it lasted. It was great 6 years but all good things must come to an end. Now, I’m back as a full time artist. even tho I never ever really left. Thank you to the artist that have embraced me before and especially during and after this whole ordeal and put me onto the gigs I’ve had so far. It means the world, as I get back on my feet. I love being on stage, around the stage, behhnd the stage plus everything in between. Ie Director, actor, arts consultant, priducer, organizer, community liaison, poet, band, a song stylist, etc So if you need any or all the above if ya need me my calendars wide open. Let’s work, side note I’ve been itching to do a play sooon! I’ll keep ya posted.
